Miniaturwelt Oberhausen
The latest attraction of the Neue Mitte (New Centre) of Oberhausen is located next to the marina in a large hall (4,400 square metres). More than 250 trains move on a track network of 4.6 kilometres altogether at the Model Railway World Oberhausen (MWO = Miniaturwelt Oberhausen). 750 points lead the miniature locomotives through the impressive scenery. The small world with its great possibilities displays a true-to-scale image of parts of the Ruhrgebiet area from 1965 to 1970.
The world’s longest photo-realistic background with 131 metres shows the visitors - including automatic alternation of day and night - the Ruhrgebiet area as it really used to be. The setup of the second stage of construction - “Ruhrgebiet today - a region in a state of flux“ - will then be accomplished before the very eyes of the spectators. After completion of this last element, the Model Railway World Oberhausen will belong to the largest installations of this kind in Germany.
