Burg Vondern
This is one of the oldest edifices here under a preservation order. The remains of circular ramparts could give rise to speculation that here, there was originally a turreted fortress on a hill. However, Burg Vondern is indeed a mighty and picturesque castle dating back to the early sixteenth century. Built by Wessel von Loe, it consists of a gate building flanked by two massive round towers with firing slits and late gothic decoration in the arches, windows and cornicing. The main building dates back to the late seventeenth century and its west facade can be ascribed to the previous building from the Middle Ages. The farm buildings on the south side were added in the nineteenth century.
