The Rhineland Industr. Museum (LVR-Industriemuseum)
The Rhineland Industrial Museum Oberhausen (LVR-Industriemuseum), located opposite the west exit of the main railway station, houses an exhibition themed on 150 years of iron and steel history in the Rhine-Ruhr region. In the former rolling mill of the Altenberg zinc factory, nine exhibits guide the visitor around the world of iron, coal and steel. The themes range from the emergence of the iron and steel industry around the middle of the 19th century, to the technical developments, working conditions, political and economic involvement of this sector in times of war and peace and finally to the present day structural changes.
Moreover, the museum is responsible for the museum facility housed in the St. Antony foundry, the former archives in the Gutehoffnungshütte (GHH) and the "wash house" in Eisenheim - an exhibition dealing with the history of working and living in the oldest workers' housing scheme in the Ruhr Area. The central depot of the Industrial Museum is located in the main warehouse of the GHH on the Essener Straße (The Peter Behrens Building).
