Kastell Holten
The fortress in Holten from the year 1307 is typical of a defensive border installation. The still preserved eastern wing dates back from the main fortress which was renewed in the sixteenth century.
It is currently used as a venue and practice area for the members of a traditional shooting club and this has been the case for several centuries. The present town of Holten developed(as was typical of the Middle Ages) from a settlement which grew around the fortress.
