Schloss Oberhausen
The Schloss Oberhausen, with its classical architectural features, gave its name to the station, built in 1846 in the vicinity and to the town itself. The building was constructed between 1804 and 1818 to the plans of the architect August Reinking for Maximilian, Count of Westerholt-Gysenberg, and was acquired by the town in 1992. After a refurbishment completed in 1998, the present building is the seat of the Ludwig Gallery Schloss Oberhausen. As a museum of changing exhibitions, the gallery brings together old and modern masterpieces of different periods and cultures. Adjacent to this, the "Gallery for Popular Art" presents works of applied art like caricatures, comic art, photography, poster art and video. In the rooms belonging to the so-called "small Schloss", there are regular exhibitions focussing on regional themes especially those dealing with structural change.
