B) The Western Ruhr Area - Duisburg: Landschaftspark and Inland Port

You will be shown how iron-ore is changed into pig-iron on a "pathway" depicting industrial history. The climax of the visit is the ascent to the top of the blast furnace with its magnificent view. C) The Ruhr and its World Cultural Heritage Sites: Essen: The Zollverein Coal Mine and the Villa Hügel
Visit the world cultural heritage site "Zollverein", once one of the biggest and most productive coal mines in Europe. It is now a vibrant venue housing, among other things, a design centre, a museum and a concert hall. The Villa Hügel, also a stopping-off point on the route of industrial culture, was once the residence of the Krupp industrial dynasty. Outside the exhibition times you can visit the historical living quarters and the extensive park.
