Exhibition in Gasometer Oberhausen

This is spectacular: Until December 30, 2024, the new exhibition “Planet Ocean” in the Gasometer Oberhausen entirely on the theme of water, ocean and sea. It not only offers a fascinating look at the diverse animal world of the oceans, but also calls for a critical examination of the consequences of human use of the world's oceans as an energy supplier, transport route or source of food. All scientific expertise comes from the German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund.

In addition to 160 large-format photographs and films, some of which have never been seen before, the exhibition also includes an "Ocean Sound Room" in which visitors can immerse themselves in the sound worlds of sea creatures. The visual highlight is the multimedia production "The Wave" on the ring in the gigantic interior of the gasometer: a 40-meter-high and 18-meter-wide screen in the shape of a wave serves as a projection surface for an animated underwater world recreated down to the last detail. It gives visitors the feeling of being under the water's surface - in the midst of schools of fish and sea giants.

After the huge success of “The Fragile Paradise” and well over 1,4 million visitors, the Gasometer Oberhausen With “Planet Ocean” we once again present an exhibition that is both fascinating and socially relevant.
