The Ruhr metropolis , with over 5 million inhabitants in 53 cities and municipalities, is the third largest conurbation in Europe – and Oberhausen is right in the heart of it! We share a common tradition of coal and steel with our neighbors. The entire region was therefore the European Capital of Culture "RUHR.2010". There is also plenty to see in the surrounding cities: for example, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, Villa Hügel and the Folkwang Museum in Essen , or the inland port and zoo in Duisburg.

In Bottrop, you can ski year-round at the Alpincenter and experience Hollywood at Movie Park Germany. Bochum boasts the long-running musical Starlight Express, and the Mining Museum is always worth a visit. Not to be forgotten are the Zoom Erlebniswelt (Zoom Adventure World) and the Veltins-Arena "Auf Schalke" in Gelsenkirchen . Borussia Dortmund 's football stadium and the DFB Football Museum, on the other hand, are a little further afield.
