Colliery Sterkrade
Monument with depth
The three-legged winding tower of the former mine Sterkrade from 1903 is one of the few surviving scaffolding structures of this type in the Ruhr metropolis and also one of the oldest surviving German strut scaffoldings in North Rhine-Westphalia. The filigree, half-timbered winding tower is connected to a shaft hall, which was built as a massive three-storey brick building and with its historicist facade is reminiscent of the Malakow towers of the 19th century. Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, the Foundation for Industrial Monument Preservation and Historical Culture presents the history of the mine at 14 p.m. as part of a 90-minute guided tour. It is even possible to go inside the shaft hall. Participation in the tour costs 5 euros per person, children under 12 have free entry.
