The Metropolis Ruhr With over 5 million inhabitants in 53 cities and municipalities, it is the third largest metropolitan area in Europe – and Oberhausen is right in the middle! We share a common tradition of coal and steel with our neighbours. The entire region was therefore the European Capital of Culture “RUHR.2010” There is also a lot to see in the surrounding towns: for example the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein, the Villa Hügel and the Folkwang Museum in Essen or the inland port and the zoo in Duisburg.

In Bottrop you can ski all year round in the Alpincenter and experience Hollywood in the Moviepark Germany. In Bochum The long-running musical Starlight Express is shown, and the mining museum is always worth a visit. Not to forget the Zoom Erlebniswelt and the Veltins Arena “Auf Schalke” in Gelsenkirchen. The football stadium of Borussia Dortmund and the DFB Football Museum are a little further away.
