At 117,5 metres high, the Gasometer Oberhausen the city's landmark. It was put into operation over 90 years ago as a disc-shaped gas tank, and since 1994 it has been Europe's highest exhibition hall. From world-famous artists such as Christo and Bill Viola, to the "Sternstunden" and the "Welt der Wunder" - a total of 17 spectacular exhibitions with over ten million visitors have already taken place in the former industrial giant. The observation deck on the roof also offers guests a unique panoramic view of the Ruhr metropolis when the weather is good.

 

After the successful exhibition “The Fragile Paradise” with over 1,3 million visitors, the next sensational project in the Gasometer Oberhausen The “Planet Ocean” shows award-winning photos and videos about the complex ecosystem of the underwater world until December 30, 2024, thus seamlessly continuing the socially relevant theme of the previous exhibition on climate change caused by humans.

The opening hours of the Gasometer Oberhausen are Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. During school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia and on public holidays, the Gasometer is also open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. Opening hours may vary during special events.
