Vondern Castle
Today's Vondern Castle (first mentioned in a document in 1266) is a mighty and picturesque castle from the early 16th century and one of the oldest preserved buildings in Oberhausen. Wessel von Loe, Representative of an ancient Westphalian noble family, Built in 17, it consists of a gatehouse flanked by two massive round towers with defensive-looking loopholes and late Gothic ornamental forms in cornices, windows and vaults. The main building dates from the late 19th century, and its west façade can probably be attributed to the medieval predecessor building. The outbuilding on the south side was added in the XNUMXth century. Today, Vondern Castle mainly serves as an impressive backdrop for events such as concerts, knightly spectacles or medieval festivals. Rooms such as the manor house, the coach house and the entire area can also be rented for private events. Tours of the castle can of course also be arranged by arrangement.
